The Model 1803 U.S. flintlock rifle was the first rifle made by a federal armory. This reconverted to flintlock rifle is one of 15,703 made at Harpers Ferry between 1814 and 1820. The 36' octagon to round approx. 60 caliber (originally 54 caliber) barrel has a fine bore with strong rifling. It has a smooth brown patina and the sunken oval US and eagle over P inspection stamps in the chamber area. The blade front and standing fixed notch rear sights are present. The lock has the eagle (mixed with pitting around the eagle) forward of the hammer and HARPERS over FERRY over 1819 at the tail. The lock and hammer have a brown patina along with the aforementioned pitting. The brass triggerguard, patchbox, buttplate, sideplate, and ramrod thimble have an even age patina. The stock is very good with finish added, a repair in the lower lock area, and a visible outline of the cartouche on the left flat. The ramrod is present. This very nice example of the highly desired U.S. Model 1803 Harpers Ferry flintlock rifle won't break the bank!
