The 7.7X54mm caliber French MAS Model 1936 rifle was in service from 1936 to 1949. Starting about 1948, rifles were manufactured with a built-in grenade launcher. They were produced until 1951. The French designation for these rifles was MAS 36 LG48. They were the last bolt action rifles to be adopted by a major nation and were used (to no avail) extensively by French forces in Vietnam. The 22.6" barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The left side of the receiver is marked MAS Mle 1936-51. The upper left of the receiver has small CAI import marks. There are three scope base holes on the ldft side of the receiver. and the bolt handle has a flat ground on it to clear a scope The left side of the barrel has a folding grenade sight. The forward part of this sight has a thumbwheel which is rotated to set grenade range by setting the collar on the barrel. As is usual on these guns, the numbers are not matching. The stock is fine with very few usage marks. The action functions correctly.
