This fine Deane & Son 42 caliber percussion revolver is identivied to General George Calvert Clarke, CB (Order of the Bath).  The 6" octagon barrel has a fine bore with bright, strong rifling. The barrel has two London Proofs and the top strap is marked DEANE & SON. LONDON BRIDGE. The right side of the frame is marked DEANE-HARDING PATENT No.5052 (the serial number). followed by an L. The revolver retains approx. 90% of tis blue finish with light spotting in areas and loss on the butt cap. The rammer, hammer, trigger, and trigger guard are bright with the sides of the hammer having light pitting. The checkered grips are fine with no chips or cracks. The action functions correctly. The pivoting cylinder latch on the right side of the frame locks cylinder rotation when the nose is inserted into one of the holes at the rear of each chamber. The serial numbers match on the frame, barrel, and cylinder. The right side of the barrel is engraved in script G. C. Clarke, Scots Greys. General George Calvert Clarke, CB, (July 23, 1814 - February 9, 1900) was a British Army officer who served from 1834 to 1881 when he retired as a General.
