This percussion Bavarian Infanteriegewher 1809 U/M (altered model from flintlock) was manufactured by the Neisse Royal Armory in 1828. The alteration to percussion took place in the 1830s up to 1841. The overall length is approx. 56.75". The 41.25" round 73 caliber smooth bore barrel has a good bore that should improve with cleaning. It is marked on the left 1828 over a crown over FW over N over an inspectrion stamp. The left flat at the stock junction is numbered 6057. The barrel is bright with very light staining. The barrel tang is cracked slightly behind the block rear sight. The lock is marked at teh center with a crown over Naisfe (Naisse) over 1828. Teh lock and hammer are bright with gray intermixed. The brass bands, side plate, trigger guard, and butt plate have an even aged patina. The swivels are absent. The ramrod is present. The stock is good with sharp edges, no cracks or chips, and light overall wear with areas of missinng finish. However, the forend has been pieced at the rear band. The action functions correctly. Many altered Model 1809 Prussian muskets were imported for the Civil War. If this is one, it was early in the war as it is smooth bore.
