This Model 1836 flintlock pistol was made by Asa Waters in Milbury, MA, in 1840. Waters manufactured approx. 23,000 between 1837 and 1844. The 8.5" round 54 caliber smooth bore barrel has a good bore with light roughness. It is marked U S. over NWP over P at the breech. All the metal is polished bright with polishing over pitting and dents in some areas. The lock is marked with an eagle over A. WATERS over MILBURY.MS. over 1840. The stock is good with repaired cracks at the front and rear of the lock, a stable age crack at the rear lock screw, and two inspector's cartouches on the left flat. The action functions correctly. The Model 1836 is the last of the U.S. flintlock martial pistols. They were used in the Mexican and Civil Wars and are a must for any martial pistol, Mexican War, or Civil War collection.
