The stainless steel German Navy SLD (Signal und Leucht Doppelschussmodel - "signal and light double shot model) was adopted by the Kreigsmarine in 1936 and was used to the end of WWII. Approximately 4,000 were made by Walther. They were issued to battleships and U-Boats. In addition, Walther made a handful of similar single barrel signal pistols. This like new very rare gun is one of those. The overall length is approx. 10". The approx. 5.75" round 26.5mm barrel has an excellent bore. The barrel has a loaded chamber indicator. The left side of the frame is marked with the serial number, 1996, followed by ac over 41 (Walther 1941). To the rear of these markings is the Kreigsmarine property stamp of the Kreigsmarine eagle over M and III/3. The safety, marked Feuer and Sicher is at the left rear of the frame.  The right sides of the frame and barrel have eagle inspection stamps. The original checkered walnut grips are excellent. The stainless steel is excellent . The action functions correctly. Now, for the best part - The heel of the grip strap is stamped 1.U.L.D.3 (1st Unterseeboots-Lehrdivision - 1st U-boat Training Division gun 3). From June 1940 to 1944 the 1st U-boat Training Division was stationed in Neustadt (Pillar). In 1944 it moved to Hamburg-Finkenuerden where it remained until March 1945. This is the only single barrel Walter Kreigsmarine flare pistol of this type we have encountered. The U-boat markings make it especially desirable.
