This 1861 dated British Enfield percussion pistol has an unusual octagon barrel. The overall length is approx. 14.25". The 8" octagon 65 caliber smooth bore barrel has a very good bore. The barrel has an iron blade front sight and notched block rear sight. The barrel is marked, reading from the muzzle, with a  broad arrow followed by an E over a crown over 18 followed by a crown with an arrow through it followed by a 4 followed by a broad arrow over WD.  The barrel is bright with light even spotting. The lock is marked 1861 over ENFIELD with a crown over VR at the tail and crown with an arrow just below the bolster. The lock and hammer are mostly gray. The brass nose cap, ramrod pipe, trigger guard, and butt cap have an even aged patina. This pistol has a sling bar on the left side and a swivel ring on the butt. The captured ramrod is present. The stock is fine with good edges, no cracks no chips, and a crown with arrow on the left flat. The action functions correctly. We are unable to exactly identify this model which generally fits the scarce Pattern 1861 8" barrel percussion pistol style but which also has similarities to Lancer pistols. The crown with arrow inspection mark ties the lock, stock, and barrel together. This interesting pistol merits further research.
