This Danish flintlock military Model 1753 pistol was made during the reign of Frederick V, King of Denmark-Norway and Duke of Schleswig-Holstein from 1746 to 1766. the overall length is approx. 19". The approx. 12.25" round 69 caliber barrel has a fine smooth bore. All the metal is smooth and bright with light brown staining. The barrel has a blade front sight. The barrel tang has a V notch rear sight. The barrel left flat is marked No 33 C 8. There are also two sink marks, SM on the left flat and a crown over a figure on the top flat. The lock is well-marked with a crown over a script F and 5 (Frederick V) and a GM sink at the frizzen spring. The brass trigger guard, butt cap, nose cap, ramrod pipes, and side plate have an even aged patina. The stock is very good with a teardrop at the barrel tang, an even dark finish over what looks to be beech, a small stress crack at the rear side plate screw, no other cracks or chips, and light overall wear. The action functions correctly. This very nice example of a Fredrick V Model 1753 flintlock pistol is fit for the finest European flintlock pistol collection.
