This German State percussion cavalry pistol with provision for the attachment of a shoulder stock was manufactured in Suhl in 1854. The overall length is approx. 16". The approx. 9.5" round 56 caliber has a fair smooth bore. All the metal has a smooth brown patina and the brass parts have a nice untouched brass patina. The barrel top flat is marked SUHL with a proof forward of that. The left oblique flat has a small crown over c followed by the serial number, 1173, with a small crown above and then an oval stamp with a Z shield D. The barrel has an iron blade front sight and the barrel tang has a fixed rear sight. The lock has GH (Haenel?) at the center. The full length stock is good with an old stress crack at the rear lock. The left flat is dated 1854. The ramrod is absent. The action functions correctly. This is a good example of a pre-German unification cavalry pistol.
