This Prussian Model 1850 Percussion pistol is dated 1868. The overall length is approx. 15". The 8.75" octagon to round 60 caliber barrel with cannon muzzle has a fine smooth bore. The barrel mostly has a smooth brown patina. It is marked on top flat at the breech with a crown over W (Fredrick William), on the left oblique flat 1868 with a small crown over W to the rear, and, on the left flat, crown over 71 over crown W over 71. The lock and action, which are a mixture of bright and brown, are marked with a crown over SUHL over GH. The lock features a cone protector or safety that rotates over the cone to protect it and the percussion cap. The brass nose cap, trigger guard, and butt cap are very good with a nice aged patina. The trigger guard bow is marked 1.3.r. over 134. This stands for the 1st Regiment, 3rd company, 134th weapon. Each of the brass parts has one or two inspection marks. The stock is very good with no cracks or chips, issue dents and dings, and two inspection stamps on the left flat and one forward of the trigger guard. The action functions correctly. It's interesting that the Prussians were still using smooth bore single shot percussion pistols when they were armed with the advanced needle fire rifle. This pistol would be a great fit in a European percussion pistol or German pistol collection.
