Beautiful Officer's dress sword belonging to Theodore Edward Lyon, of the New York 8th Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He was mustered for the Spanish American War, but did not see action. Blade is 29" and etched with a floral motif and inscribed "Presented to Captain Theodore Edward Lyon, Company E 8th Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry, by the friends and patrons of the Barnard Schools NY City November 18th 1898." Other side of blade is inscribed "Faithful service to country in the Spanish American War". Ricasso is marked Ridabock & Co New York. Guard has a high relief figure of a cloaked rider. Langet has a fraternal symbol. Pommel has an eagle perched on a rock with animal heads under rock. D knuckle guard also has animal heads in high relief. Scabbard's drag is a panoply of arms. Scabbard also has a soldier in guard position and an eagle in high relief. Comes with a presentation case inscribed to Captain Theodore Lyon. An elegant officer's sword!
