High Quality Manton Double Barrel Percussion Shotgun (AS43)

This 10 GA percussion Manton shotgun is nicely engraved and has beautiful wood. The overall length is approx. 46 1/4". The 29 1/2" round barrels have very good bores. The barrels have most of their original brown finish. The center rib is marked in a flowing S JOSEPH MANTON & SON with another S scroll marking below reading PATENT. 6 HOLLIS ST.REET over another S scroll reading CAVENDISH SQUARE. LONDON. About half of the barrel's Damascus pattern can be seen under bright light. The breeches feature platinum blow out plugs. Both locks feature engraved bird dog and bird scenes. They also have scroll engraving at the front, in front and rear of the hammer, and at the tail. Each lock has decorative borders and each is equipped with a flash fence. The hammer engraving features scrolls. The locks are marked JOSEPH MANTON & SON/PATENTEES. The barrel tang, rear ramrod pipe, buttplate tang, and triggerguard are also nicely engraved. The hammer noses are separate so they can be easily replaced. The French walnut stocks exhibit fine figure and are in excellent condition. The checkering on the wrist and forearm is sharp and crisp and there are no chips or cracks. There is an escutcheon at the wrist that is engraved WEA. The action functions perfectly. This is a great example of a high quality percussion English percussion double shotgun. It has everything going for it - a well-known maker, engraving, wonderful wood, and condition.
