Colt 1851 Navy Conversion Revolver. Post-Civil war factory conversion to centerfire. Note that the hammer has a conical firing pin. Aside from the factory work this revolver has additional work done by a gunsmith of the period, such as the barrel is shortened to 4 ½”. He left the one line Colt address intact. The ejector housing and rod are the gunsmith’s own engineering, which actually works fine. The revolver has an “of the period” nickel in which no one has buffed the metal prior to nickeling. This revolver has a good cylinder scene; sharp barrel address and crisp barrel flats. The revolver has some nice competent scroll engraving. NOT buffed and blurred. The action works perfectly and indexes and locks up fine. One piece wood grips show no wear so they are excellent, handmade replacements. Overall, we think this is a very appealing revolver the likes of which you don’t have. We think this unique conversion to be most charming and a plus to any conversion collection!
